WHO COVID-19 DASHBOARD - September 30, 2021

Globally, as of 5:15 pm CEST, 30 September 2021, there have been 233,136,147 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including 4,771,408 deaths, reported to WHO. As of 29 September 2021, a total of 6,136,962,861 vaccine doses have been administered.

So that you can compare with a month ago:

Globally, as of 5:33 pm CEST, 27 August 2021, there have been 214,468,601 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including 4,470,969 deaths, reported to WHO. As of 25 August 2021, a total of 4,953,887,422 vaccine doses have been administered.

 

 

Medical Technologies for COVID-19 and Other Health Priorities:

1.1 NEW OXYGEN PAGE IN WHO

 

1.2 Past webinar: 2021 Compendium of innovative technologies for low resource settings

The publication was launched on 31 August 2021: https://www.who.int/publications/i/item/9789240032507  includes 24 technologies. 1.3 Open call for innovative technologies for low-resource settings. 

Many more submissions were received and will be assessed in October.

Do you have an innovative product (approved for emergency use, or commercially available), that might help with the response against COVID-19? Please complete this form so that your product can be considered and assessed for the next compendium. The call closes on October 4th, 2021.

 

1.4 Oxygen is urgent and PSA Plants could be repaired, while new ones arrive: “Every Breath counts coalition” is collecting information. Please add your PSA plant that needs maintenance to Every Breath Counts LMIC Oxygen Plant "FIX LIST" - Google Sheets

 

1.5 Technology transfer needs to take place to ensure access to COVID-19 technologies globally. Medical devices industry, academia, innovators are invited to share knowledge, IP, or data, join C-TAP

 

 

WHO List of Essential in Vitro Diagnostics and Guidance for the Implementation at Country Level Webinar

WHO is pleased to share with you:  “Selection of essential in vitro diagnostics at country level using the WHO Model List of Essential In Vitro Diagnostics to develop and update a national list of essential in vitro diagnostics”

Nomenclature of Medical Devices

Following the request from the last World Health Assembly, a Member States information session on the nomenclature of medical devices took place on 23rd of September 2021 The background documents including the calendar of consultations and the surveys submitted by all stakeholders are available here

Next steps: More consultations, mapping exercises, feasibility study.  Next Member States information session: December 2021.  Discussion during the WHO Executive Board on 24-29 January 2022.

 

 

Global Atlas of Medical Devices 2021 for consultation: Due October 4th, 2021

The latest edition of the Global Atlas of Medical Devices was published 5th August 2017: https://www.who.int/teams/health-product-policy-and-standards/assistive-and-medical-technology/medical-devices/global-atlas-of-medical-devices 

After many months of surveys, more than 1,000 email communications, and desk reviews,  WHO presents the Draft 2021 Global Atlas of medical devices for final consultation.

WHO welcomes and is very thankful to all that collaborated in providing the information. This PDF document will be posted for consultation for 4 weeks, until October 4th, 2021.

Please note, this is a DRAFT PUBLICATION, still pending publication approval.

You need JavaScript enabled to view it. before 5th October. For all candidates, more than 6 years of professional experience is required on the subject matter, postgraduate degree, English and other UN language is preferable (Arabic, Chinese, French, Spanish and Russian).

 


Tomorrow is 13 years ago that I arrived at WHO!!!! Much has been done but much more still to do, so looking forward to keeping on working together to impact those who need access to the appropriate and good quality technologies to be safely used!
