The Hellenic Society for Biomedical Technology (ELEVIT) held its flagship biannual event, the 8th Panhellenic Conference on Biomedical Technology, on the 9th and 10th of May 2019 in Athens, Greece.
The event was endorsed by IFMBE, EAMBES and the Hellenic Ministry of Health and it was held at the Wyndham Grand Hotel in Athens, Greece. An audience of almost 400 scientists, clinical and biomedical engineers, students and industry representatives participated in this event, marking the largest conference held by the Society up to day.
The conference program included plenary lectures from scientists of international renown such as Nikos Stergiopoulos (EPFL), Yves Verboven (MedTech Europe), Antonio Fratini (University of Aston) and Leandro Pecchia (University of Warwick), interesting panels and parallel sessions on biomedical and clinical engineering from policy makers, academic and professional experts and the industry.
Specific themes included Health Technology Assessment and Drug Assessment, Safety and Health Technology Management, Clinical Support and Clinical Monitoring Systems, Clinical Engineering Design and Procurement, among many others. Moreover, after reviewing submissions, the conference also accepted 68 extended abstracts to be presented either in oral or poster format during the sessions.
From this latter category, a committee also judged and selected the best oral and poster presentation held, while the Society awarded their presenters (covering their attendance to an IFMBE or EAMBES event in 2019-2020). The scientific program and conference proceedings were published in a book with ISBN 978-960-243-714-8 offering added value to the contributors’ effort. A large industry show offered ample opportunity for participants to explore biomedical solutions from worldwide leaders and discuss on products and possible collaborations.
During the closing ceremony, the Society and its president Prof Panagiotis Bamidis, honored Prof Nicolas Pallikarakis and Mr Vasileios Gkergkis for their excellent contribution and efforts over the years on the fields of biomedical and clinical engineering in Greece respectively.
